Real Madrid's Mourinho gives up on Spanish title
MADRID (AFP) - Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho admitted on Sunday that his team have no chance of retaining La Liga title, calling it mission impossible after a disappointing 2-2 home draw with struggling Espanyol.
A late goal from substitute Juan Albin gave Espanyol a share of the points which means that Barcelona can go 13 points clear of them if they beat second-placed Atletico Madrid later on Sunday.
"The league is now impossible," said Mourinho. "It is the first time that I have been in a situation like this where my team are a long way off their objectives.
"But I don't want to make a drama out of it, I will treat it as another stage of my life." Cristiano Ronaldo equalised for Madrid on the stroke of half-time on Sunday after Sergio Garcia had put joint-bottom Espanyol ahead on the half hour mark.
