Well done, PUB

IN SPITE of weeks of heavy rain, often prolonged and sometimes very heavy and intense, there have been no reports of serious flooding. Nor have there been reports of significant damage or disruptions due to flooding or severe "ponding". This must be an indication that the PUB is managing the water flow and drainage effectively.

I have noticed that the water level in our reservoirs is relatively low despite the heavy rainfall, presumably a result of the active management of the water table by the PUB. Well done, PUB.

Kindness begets kindness

THE article about spreading joy ("While You Were Sleeping, someone was nice to you"; Wednesday) is a timely reminder that kindness, like love, is a many splendoured thing, and that there are many simple and creative ways to be kind to someone.

In fact, the Straits Times' Causes Week series is very inspiring. It reinforces our conviction that Singaporeans are indeed a kind people, as evidenced by all the stories on kindness you feature.

Your stories will inspire many readers to initiate simple acts of kindness because kindness does breed kindness. Once started, it has a life of its own, and its multiplier effect is incredibly magnified by the power of the Internet.

Thank you for giving kind people and their acts the platform to inspire others.
