Singapore's Keppel to build two Gulf of Mexico rigs

MEXICO CITY (AFP) - Mexican oil giant Pemex announced on Wednesday that it was awarding a US$420 million contract to Singapore's Keppel FELS to build two drilling rigs for shallow waters in the Gulf of Mexico.

The two jack-up rigs - self-elevating mobile platforms that stand on the seabed when their legs are lowered - are due for delivery in the first quarter of 2015.

Pemex is the world's fourth-largest crude producer with around 2.5 million barrels per day. Keppel FELS is a unit of Singapore's Keppel Corp.
