Actress Lindsay Lohan could face jail as probation revoked

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - A US court revoked actress Lindsay Lohan's probation on Wednesday, setting her up for a possible new jail sentence, after she was charged for allegedly lying to police about a car crash.

The probation ruling was widely expected after the perennially-troubled 26-year-old was charged last month over the California car crash, on the same day she was arrested over an alleged fight in a New York nightclub.

Lohan did not appear in court for Wednesday's brief hearing, in which the Los Angeles Superior Court revoked her probation stemming from an alleged 2011 theft of a necklace from a jewelry store near her Venice, California home. The court set a date of Jan 15 for a new hearing on the probation violation.

Lohan, who is struggling to get her life back on the rails, was charged last month with reckless driving and lying to police about whether she was driving a Porsche that crashed into a truck on the Pacific Coast Highway in June.
