Improve bus service before raising fares
THE Government should not suggest that transport operators increase fares to boost bus drivers' wages, without an improvement in service ("Bus fares may go up to help improve drivers' pay"; last Friday).
Without service improvement, how does one evaluate or justify pay hikes to commuters? Rather than the bottom line, operators should be held to account for service quality. Otherwise, fare hikes would be unfair to commuters.
