Another national treasure bites the dust
IT IS disheartening to know that the house of the late artist Ng Eng Teng will be demolished to make way for new developments ("Salvaging history from home of late sculptor"; last Friday).
We will lose two national treasures: First, that of a rich, traditional architectural style that is fast disappearing from this part of the world; second, a place of cultural and historical significance, as this was where one of the pioneers of Singapore sculpture created his masterpieces.
It is unfortunate that efforts to save this piece of heritage, which has withstood the test of time and has been a popular landmark in Joo Chiat, have come to nought.
