Esplanade explains the noise conundrum

WE THANK Mr Richard Seah for his feedback on the performances happening around the Bay on Nov 23 ("Concert noise can be heard from even 1km away"; last Thursday). We were in dialogue with the SMTown concert organiser from September, and they informed us that they would take necessary measures for crowd control and sound levels.

When they commenced their sound checks days earlier, we expressed our concerns that the sound was too loud and would disrupt our outdoor performances. The concert promoter acknowledged our concerns and made efforts to reduce sound levels but unfortunately, they were still high.

This is an issue that requires continuous dialogue among the neighbours around the Bay.

For example, to ensure that audiences could fully enjoy the performance of Yakshagana - traditional dance drama of Karnataka, from India - at our Outdoor Theatre while a Psy showcase was on across the Bay at the Marina Bay Sands yesterday, we planned for our second set (there were three sets) to start 15 minutes later, at 9pm, after the Psy showcase. In this way, audiences for both shows could enjoy the performances without disruption.
