385 new HIV cases reported in first 10 months of this year
A total of 385 new HIV cases were reported among Singapore residents in the first 10 months of this year.
The Ministry of Health, releasing the latest figures ahead of World Aids Day, said that by extrapolation, the total number of notified HIV cases in 2012 will be similar to that of last year's 461 cases.
Data showed that 91 men acquired HIV through heterosexual sexual transmission in the first six months of this year. A total of 100 homosexual and bisexual men got HIV through sexual transmission.
In the six-month period, 107 Singapore male and female residents acquired HIV through heterosexual sexual transmission. Homosexual and bisexual sexual transmissions accounted for 101 cases among Singapore residents.
