Concert noise can be heard from even 1km away
LAST Friday, the Esplanade opened its annual Indian arts festival, Kalaa Utsavam, with an outdoor performance by Sufi Gospel Project, a group of musicians from New Delhi.
At the same time, a four-hour concert touted as the "biggest Korean pop music event in Singapore" was going on at the Marina Bay Floating Platform, a few hundred metres away.
The Korean pop concert was very loud and I could hear it as I was approaching the Esplanade from the Padang - at least 1km away. Needless to say, Sufi Gospel Project's performance was drowned out.
Were the organisers of the K-pop concert aware that the Esplanade was also holding a concert nearby? Did the Esplanade management hold prior discussions with the K-pop concert organisers to reach a compromise on the noise level?
