AFF Suzuki Cup: Indonesia stun Singapore with late winner
KUALA LUMPUR - Singapore's passage to the semi-finals of the Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup will hinge on their result against Laos this weekend, after they crashed to a 0-1 defeat by Indonesia in Group B.
There were few clear-cut chances on a rain-soaked pitch at Bukit Jalil Stadium, but the game opened up when Singapore defender Irwan Shah was sent off for a second yellow card offence in the second half.
The Lions came closest to scoring when substitute Aleksandar Duric rattled the crossbar with a header in the 82nd minute.
They were made to pay for that miss.
Four minutes from time, Singapore goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud was deceived by the flight of a free-kick from Indonesia's Andik Vermansyah.
Malaysia will play Laos in another Group B tie later on Wednesday.
The Lions, who still top the group on goal difference, will meet Laos on Saturday.
