Classic tarts and pies back in fashion


Luxe cakes and fancy gateaux may have been the rage in recent years, but classic tarts and pies are now back in fashion.

The humble pie takes centre stage this season with more bakeries and patisseries harking back to this simple pleasure.

Among the offerings in bakeries are crisp, crumbly pastry shells filled with zesty curds or decadent chocolate ganache, and topped with nuts, fresh fruit or velvety meringue.

Go to five-month-old Overdoughs bakery in Waterloo Street if you fancy soursop meringue tart, or Plain Vanilla Bakery in Holland Village for its salted caramel truffle tart.
