Souped up hotpots heat up the steamboat scene

If you are hankering for comforting hot soup in the rainy weather, head to the latest wave of hotpot eateries that feature newfangled flavours and premium ingredients.

They include King Pot at Big Splash, which features Western-style soup bases such as mala lobster bisque and French onion soup; and Tsukada Nojo's three-week-old outlet at Atrium@Orchard, with its signature dish of bijin nabe, a collagen soup made with organic, free-range chicken.

Thai-style mookata eateries are also gaining ground here, with the latest player MooJaa at Keong Saik Road joining the scene three months ago.

Mookata refers to the dome-shaped grill with a soup trough that is placed over a pit of charcoal. Other popular outlets, which have opened over the last few years, include Mookata BBQ Steamboat at Golden Mile Complex and Mookata Traditional Thai BBQ at 103 East Coast Road.
