Ex-CNB chief on trial, Video

There was 'actual' conflict of interests in tender awards: DPP

There was actual conflict in the two tender awards, said the prosecution, rather than just perceived conflict which former Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) chief Ng Boon Gay had claimed.

That was the order of the day as the prosecution and defence set out to argue whether there was conflict of interest when Ng approved IT contracts, which involved a company Ms Cecilia Sue had worked for, as the highly-watched corruption trial resumed on Wednesday.

Ng, 46, had said on Tuesday that Ms Sue's Hitachi Data Systems was simply a sub-vendor and so there was no actual conflict of interest.

But the prosecution rebutted this on Wednesday in cross-examining Ng. It charged that the former top cop gave instructions to pick HDS as the supplier for one IT tender, and by the second tender had full knowledge that it also involved Ms Sue's firm but did not withdraw himself from the approval process.
