Let's be careful about re-inventing PSLE
I AM saddened by the fact that we are trying to re-invent a very crucial wheel in our basic education system - the Primary School Leaving Examination ("Don't publicise top scorers and their results" by Mr Tan Soon Meng; yesterday).
By not publicising top scorers' results, are we taking a step backwards in a merit-based education system, which is highly recognised globally, and replacing it with a potentially inferior product to ameliorate the complaints of parents about stressing their children?
Reducing the exam's importance will lead Singapore to an uncertain and painful future.
