Fans jeer Kristen Stewart's scenes in Breaking Dawn - Part 2

At a preview screening of the new Twilight movie in Los Angeles early this month, the gaggle of fans sitting at the front is almost as entertaining to watch as the film.

Actors Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner get whoops and cheers when they appear during the extended credits at the end. But their co-star Kristen Stewart, the female protagonist of the series, elicits a rather muted response, and even a couple of quiet boos.

Since Stewart was caught cheating on her on- and off-screen partner Pattinson earlier this year - a photographer catching her canoodling with Rupert Sanders, her 41-year-old director on Snow White And The Huntsman (2012) who is married - many wondered if the fallout would affect the Twilight franchise, the first four movies of which have made US$2.5 billion (S$3.05 billion) worldwide since 2008.

It was as much a public relations as a personal disaster, hence the grovelling statement issued by the actress to apologise to her boyfriend, who at one point was said to be barely speaking to her. To make matters worse, the two were about to embark on a promotional tour for the fifth and final movie, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, which opens in Singapore tomorrow.
