Patients using Medisave for HIV drugs 'more than doubled' in 2011


The eighth Singapore Aids conference opened on Saturday at the Mandarin Orchard Hotel with the theme of 'Zero new infections, Zero stigma, Zero deaths'.

The event brings together medical professionals, Aids advocates and patients, the symposium addressed issues such as early testing and linkage to care, access to treatment, social and behavioral interventions, among others.

Guest of honour and Minister of State for Health Dr Amy Khor spoke about the accessibility of HIV treatment in Singapore.

She said the number of patients using their Medisave to obtain their HIV drugs at the Communicable Disease Centre has more than doubled from an average of 300 patients a year prior to 2010 to over 700 patients last year.
