Malaysia police probe fresh Indonesian maid abuse
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - Malaysian police are investigating a man for allegedly raping a 15-year-old Indonesian working for him, officials said on Thursday, days after another maid accused three policemen of rape.
The cases have reportedly caused outrage in Indonesia. Ties between the two neighbours have been tense over frequent reports of abuse in recent years, causing Indonesia to temporarily stop sending maids to Malaysia in 2009.
Malaysia's foreign ministry said in a statement that the Indonesian in the latest case in Seremban, a town near the capital Kuala Lumpur, was raped, as well as tied up and left without food for four days.
Police are investigating her employer, who was arrested earlier this week, over the rape. The charge carries up to 20 years in prison.
