More decreases than increases in ERP rates in last 2 years

IN THE last two years, Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) rates have been lowered more often than they have been increased.

They were reduced 11 times but increased eight times, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew told Parliament on Thursday.

He was responding to MP (Nee Soon GRC) Lee Bee Wah, who queried the rationale for revising rates and asked whether the revenue collected from ERP would result in road taxes being lowered.

Mr Lui explained that rates were raised when average traffic speeds along stretches of road fell below the optimal speed range. For expressways, this is between 45kmh and 65kmh.
