Sports safety programme aims to educate children about sports risks

The Singapore Sports Council has launched the Sports Safety Champs programme as part of its efforts to prevent sports-related accidents in Singapore.

The programme, which comprises both theory and practical elements, aims to train participants with a variety of skills such as injury prevention and first aid guidelines.

Since it began in March 2011, over 260 individuals - ranging from primary school pupils to parents - have participated in pilot runs of the programme.

They include students and parent volunteers from Wellington and Tampines North Primary Schools, Nan Chiau High School and the Singapore Institute of Management. A further 27 schools have indicated an interest in getting involved.
