NEA takes serious view of errant meat suppliers

THE National Environment Agency takes a serious view of such malpractices ("Get serious against sellers who pass off beef as mutton" by Mr V. Balu; last Friday).

We assure Mr Balu and all in the community that we take a firm stand against such cases and will prosecute them to the full extent of the law.

We have also barred both suppliers from selling meat with immediate effect.

The maximum penalties for such offences will also be reviewed to send a strong message to the industry that such acts will not be tolerated by the Government.
