Hit-and-run driver jailed over fatal accident
A hit-and-run motorist was sentenced to five years' jail and banned from driving all vehicles for 10 years on Monday for causing the death of a pillion rider and other offences.
Ho Chee Wei, 28, then a site engineer, had been driving under a four-month driving ban at the time of the fatal crash along Pan-Island Expressway on April 19 last year.
He had caused the death of interior designer Chong Ying Ying, 23, and grievously hurting motorcyclist Darren Loh Chen Sing, 23, then a full-time national serviceman, by doing a rash act.
Court papers say that he was travelling at a calculated speed of 100.8 to 121kmh in the 90kmh speed limit zone when he hit the back of Mr Loh's motorcycle, causing the couple to be flung off their machine.
