Painting a birthing ground of silent terror

After almost eight years working a variety of artistic medium, Singaporean artist Genevieve Chua has finally returned to painting.

The latest exhibition by the National Arts Council's Young Artist Award recipient, Birthing Ground Not A Sound, features 12 paintings including two large-scale panels each measuring almost 3m by 2m.

The series, on display at Valentine Willie Fine Art in Keppel Road, depicts the inside of an imaginary shopping mall atrium hit by a flood.

The paintings, which incorporate screenprints, are reminiscent of ultrasound scans of the evacuated interiors of the mall with earth washed into it.
