No good reason to ban fast cars
BANNING fast cars is akin to disallowing the import of cars that can be driven above the speed limit ("Ban fast cars from city streets" by Mr Bala S. Rajaratnam; last Wednesday).
Nowadays, fast cars with carbon ceramic brakes, wider tyres and electronically controlled braking systems can be stopped quickly.
A Ferrari 599 GTO travelling at 178kmh can come to a complete stop in about four seconds.
The Land Transport Authority already has rules on speeding, and errant drivers face having their licences suspended. This is deterrence enough.
