HPB's joint pilot programme launched to improve health of elderly
It's back to school for elderly residents of Choa Chu Kang GRC - at least where health is concerned, that is.
The Health Promotion Board (HPB), Choa Chu Kang grassroots organisation, and South View Primary School have jointly organised a pilot programme aimed at improving the health of elderly residents.
The Back To School initiative, which was launched by Health Minister Gan Kim Yong on Saturday morning, involves the use of classroom-based activities and hands-on workshops to educate those aged 50 and above on the importance of getting flu vaccinations, mental well-being, and good dental hygiene.
HPB chief executive Ang Hak Seng, said the flu, if left untreated, can lead to serious illnesses such as pneumonia but can easily be prevented with regular flu vaccination. The uptake of the flu vaccine in Singapore, particularly amongst the needy elderly is low and this is a cause for concern.
