Asian rugby giants to play at Padang from Friday

TOP class rugby action will take place at the Padang from Friday, when the HSBC Asian Sevens are held alongside the Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) International Sevens.

Regional giants like Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea are among the 12 teams competing in the Asian event. The top three teams will automatically qualify for the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow next year.

This is the first time in the 65-year history of the SCC 7s that it is running parallel to an international event.

This year's edition will feature 20 international clubs from 13 countries, including defending champions Daveta from Fiji.
