Al-Qaeda website, hosted in Malaysia, was shut down
PETALING JAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) : The "official" website of terrorist group Al-Qaeda had a registered address in Kuala Lumpur, until it was shut down on Wednesday.
Tawhed.net, said to be the largest terrorist website in the world, was shut down at 4pm on Wednesday after The Star newspaper alerted the local server about its presence.
But counter-terrorism experts say that won't be the end of the portal as it is al-Qaeda's strategy to have its websites and forums hosted in one country to move to another when detected.
News of the website's presence came close on the heels of news that two Malaysian men, aged 21 and 30, had tried to enter Syria to die as suicide bombers. They were nabbed in Lebanon and were expected to know this week in a Lebanese military court whether their defence would be called.
