Anti-austerity protestors trash Zara shop in Spain

BARCELONA (AFP) - Spanish anti-austerity protestors went on a rampage in clothing chain Zara in Barcelona on Wednesday, breaking glass and hurling mannequins and clothes onto the floor.

Around 20 protestors briefly occupied the Zara shop in central Barcelona and some protested inside an Apple Store, an AFP photographer saw.

The protestors from the minority anarchist labour unions CGT and CNT were demonstrating against the government's austere economic policies in the current recession and debt crisis.

"It was a few troublemakers who fled as soon as they saw the police," said a CGT spokesman. "We condemn these acts," he said of Wednesday's disturbances.
