Latin American nabbed for break-ins; $300k loot recovered


Police on Tuesday, arrested a Latin American in connection with a series of break-ins reported in private housing estates here in recent weeks.

The 40-year-old man was nabbed after officers from the Police Intelligence Department and various Land Divisions raided a budget hotel along Balestier Road.

The suspect, who is from Guatemala, later led the police to a rented room at Claymore Drive, where the loot - comprising an assortment of currencies, watches, jewellery and other valuable items amounting to about $300,000 - and housebreaking tools were found.

Police said on Wednesday that there had been a spike in the number of break-ins reported at private residential units island-wide since the start of October.
