Two-car system for Sengkang Punggol LRT by 2016

The Sengkang Punggol LRT system will be upgraded from a one-car to two-car train system by 2016 to cater to increasing ridership.

This was announced by Minister of State for Transport Josephine Teo after a visit to Sengkang LRT on Wednesday.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will modify 16 of the existing 41 single-car trains to be coupled for two-car operations.

It will also buy 16 more train cars, increasing the train fleet of by about 40 per cent.
