New $80m clinical trial grant for healthcare researchers

A new clinical trial grant which aims to support innovative and high-impact clinical trials has been launched by the Health Ministry.

A total of $80 million - to be administered by the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) - will be set aside to look into developing novel healthcare therapies under the Clinical Trial Grant.

"It is hoped that such research will foster new directions in translational biomedical research, and further encourage multidisciplinary and multi-institutional collaborations," Mrs Tan Ching Yee, Permanent Secretary (Health), announced on Wednesday. She spoke at the opening of the NMRC Awards Ceremony and Translational Clinical Research Symposium 2012.

The event at Resorts World Sentosa Convention Centre will see 25 clinician scientists receiving awards along with grant funding for their research fields such as cardiology, mental health, neurology and infectious diseases.
