Body in MRT tunnel: Man said to have climbed over locked gate
The man found dead in an MRT tunnel on Sunday was earlier seen climbing over a locked gate by other members of the public, The Straits Times understands. However, nobody alerted the authorities.
It is understood that the Singaporean Chinese man in his 20s was not an SMRT employee with official access to the line.
Instead, he was a member of the public who climbed over the gate at Redhill station to get onto the tracks. From there, he walked east towards Tiong Bahru, an underground station on the East-West Line.
He was found lying beside the tracks in the tunnel between the two stations. It is not clear exactly how he died. At elevated stations, there are locked gates at either end of the platforms to restrict access.
