Thai teen in MRT accident returns to Singapore for hearing

Trial to determine if SMRT and LTA were at fault begins on Monday

Thai teenager Nitcharee Peneakchanasak is back in Singapore as her case against train operator SMRT and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) starts on Monday.

On April 3 last year, she fell onto the tracks at Ang Mo Kio MRT station just as a train was pulling in. The accident severed one of her legs and led to the other being amputated later.

She had come to Singapore from Trang in Thailand for a month-long holiday and to take English classes.

The hearing to determine who was at fault will see her taking the stand on Monday, along with the investigative officer and experts.
