Taleban claim Afghan attack killing two Americans
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - The Taleban are claiming responsibility for what may have been the latest insider attack against Western troops saying one of their infiltrators killed two American service members in Uruzgan province.
A statement on Friday said an Afghan soldier shot the men a day earlier, then escaped to join the insurgents.
A spokesman for United States forces in Afghanistan said authorities were still determining whether the attacker was a member of the Afghan security forces or an insurgent who donned a government uniform. It was the second suspected insider attack in two days.
On Wednesday, two British troops and an Afghan policeman were gunned down in Helmand province.
