New York nanny arrested after 2 children found stabbed to death

NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a nanny at a luxury New York City apartment building has stabbed two small children to death in a bathtub and stabbed herself. They say the children's mother found them after returning home with another child.

The mother called police after she arrived home on Thursday evening with her 3-year-old to find the 1-year-old and 6-year-old children in the apartment at a building called La Rochelleon on Manhattan's Upper West Side. It's unclear how many times the children were stabbed.

Police say the nanny was on the floor of the bathroom and had stab wounds believed to be self-inflicted. They said a kitchen knife was nearby.

Police say the nanny is in custody. She is hospitalized in critical condition.
