Junior college student dies after being hit by minibus

In all her years of schooling, Vernise Kwa had never had to take public transport to school.

Anxious for her safety, and for her to get more sleep, her parents had ferried her to and from school. But when she got into junior college this year, she asked to go to school on her own.

Last Friday, the 17-year-old was on her way to Serangoon Junior College from her Sengkang flat when she was hit by a minibus.

The first-year junior college student suffered from liver, lung and head injuries, and was operated on three times at the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. She died on Monday at the hospital, without coming out of her coma.
