Make road near school in Sembawang Drive safer: MP

Safety measures around Sembawang Drive, the scene of two fatalities in 10 months, are "insufficient", according to Dr Lim Wee Kiak, an MP for Nee Soon GRC.

Citing the frequency of speeding vehicles in the area, he said he would ask for more road safety measures at the next Parliament sitting.

His comments came after a five-year-old girl was killed by a taxi on Oct 10 in Sembawang Drive.

"My issue is that this is a threat to the residents. The stretch of road comes from an industrial area and nothing separates it from the HDB blocks, so motorists tend to speed up even when they enter the school zone," he told The Straits Times.
