Man charged with assault after goalkeeper attack
LONDON (AP) - The hooligan who attacked former England goalkeeper Chris Kirkland during a pitch invasion in a second-tier League Championship match has been charged with assault by police.
A 21-year-old man, who has also been charged with entering the field of play, was arrested Sunday - two days after he shoved Kirkland in the face and to the ground amid violent scenes during Sheffield Wednesday's match against Leeds at Hillsborough.
The man, who was not identified, will appear at Sheffield Magistrates' Court later Monday.
The English Football Association said Saturday an investigation has been launched into the crowd trouble at the game, which also saw bottles being thrown onto the pitch and offensive chanting from both sets of fans.
