Liquid nitrogen cocktails are no longer cool

Once a popular novelty drink a few years ago, liquid nitrogen cocktails are hard to find at bars and restaurants here these days.

When SundayLife! contacted several bars and restaurants believed to have served such drinks - which use the chemical to chill alcohol rapidly and give off a cool white vapour - they told us they do not serve the cocktails, or have stopped offering them some time ago.

Some bartenders say the appeal of such drinks in Singapore has dissipated since a few years ago. Hence, the disappearance of the drinks from menus here is unlikely to be the result of an unfortunate incident that took place recently in the United Kingdom.

A British teenager had to remove her stomach after consuming a liquid nitrogen cocktail on her 18th birthday. The chemical had perforated her stomach.
