Found: The best street food in the region

Some of the best food you can savour on your travels in the region can be found on the street.

From open-air food stalls in Taipei to pushcarts on the streets of Bangkok, appetites are whet with local, authentic favourites that are cheap and good.

In Bangkok, for example, you can get a good meal for 30 Baht (S$1.20) - and a positively excellent meal for around 60 Baht. That makes Bangkok one of the cheapest big cities in the world to eat out in, if one sticks to the street. And the flavours are the envy of many a five-star chef.

The fact that many of these stalls have been around for decades attests to how good they are. For example, Gaya Prasad Shiv Charan, a parantha (fried flat bread) stall in the bustling market Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi, has been open since 1872.
