Unsolved crime inspires Filipino horror movie The Road


Filipino horror film The Road was released in the United States in May, making it the first Filipino film in decades to get a commercial release there.

And it was well received too. New York Times praised its "powerfully atmospheric blend of ghostly encounters, horrific situations and missing-persons mysteries".

The movie - will be telecast on Thrill (StarHub Channel 618) on Saturday (Oct 20), as part of the channel's month-long focus on Asian horror - was inspired by a horrific news report of a crime that occurred in a southern province of the Philippines in the 1990s.

Director William "Yam" Laranas, 42, tells Life! on the telephone from Manila: "Two sisters were randomly abducted, raped and murdered. And one of the bodies is still missing today.
