Criminal investigators at US pharmacy linked to outbreak
CHICAGO (AFP) - Criminal investigators from the United States (US) Food and Drug Administration (FDA) searched a Massachusetts pharmacy on Tuesday which made tainted drugs tied to a meningitis outbreak that has killed 15 people.
The search comes a day after the FDA identified two new drugs produced by the New England Compounding Center (NECC) which may have infected patients with the rare form of fungal meningitis.
"This is part of our ongoing investigation... to fully investigate the scope and cause of the outbreak of fungal meningitis," Ms Sara Clark-Lynn, a spokesman for the FDA, told AFP.
Ms Clark-Lynn declined to comment on whether criminal charges were pending or confirm that criminal investigators were part of the team.
