Chinese stamps sell for record $879k at HK auction

HONG KONG - A pair of 1941 Dr Sun Yat-sen stamps from China sold for HK$5.5 million (S$878,800) in Hong Kong, setting a world auction record, Bloomberg reported on Saturday.

The pair of vertically attached stamps is particularly rare because of an error in which the HK$2 sign is printed upside down, Bloomberg quoted a news release from the auction house Zurich Asia.

The previous highest price for a Republic of China stamp was set in March when an inverted Sun Yat Sen stamp sold for HK$2.4 million, the auction house said.
