5 women rescued in Pearl Bank Apartments fire

A fire broke out in the living room of a 19th-floor unit at Pearl Bank Apartments on Thursday.

An 18-year-old Chinese woman, who was in a bedroom of the two-storey maisonette when the fire started, was taken to the Singapore General Hospital. She suffered burns to her arms and ears. Four other Chinese women were also rescued from the bedroom.

The fire was contained in the living room on the upper level.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it sent out rescue vehicles, including two fire engines and an ambulance, after being alerted at about 5pm. The blaze was put out within 20 minutes.
