US drone strike kills 11 insurgents in Pakistan: Officials
PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AFP) - A US drone attack on Thursday killed 11 insurgents - mostly Afghans - at a militant compound in Pakistan's tribal region near the north-western border with Afghanistan, officials said.
It was the second US missile strike reported in as many days in the north-west, considered a stronghold of the Taleban and Al-Qaeda.
The attack comes as Pakistan is in shock over the Taleban's attempted assassination of a 14-year-old child rights activist.
"US drones fired four missiles on a militant compound, and initial reports say 11 militants have died," local administration official Khushal Khan told AFP in Orakzai district. He said most of the dead were Afghans. Six other people were wounded, he said.
