Influx of kindergarten applications as mainland kids born in HK return
HONG KONG - Thousands of applications from mainland parents are expected by Hong Kong kindergartens, as children born in Hong Kong in recent years to these parents from across the border return to be educated.
Applications received by just two of the 17 kindergartens in Sheung Shui town bordering Shenzhen may already have exceeded the total number of places available, Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post reported on Wednesday.
The pressure on kindergartens in the north of Hong Kong is expected to grow as more children born in Hong Kong to mainland parents reach school age.
Educators have warned that the demand will spill into other areas.
