New security-enhanced bicycle racks for residents

Fifty more improved security-enhanced bicycle racks will be installed in Serangoon by the end of the year, after 10 were put up in the area this week.

The 10 were unveiled at Block 323 Serangoon Avenue 3 on Sunday as part of a nationwide police initiative to prevent bicycle thefts, which have been on the rise in recent years.

Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC Seah Kian Peng, who attended the event, said that with bike thefts up, he hopes residents will secure their bicycles in the new racks, and not in corridors or staircase landings.

"Islandwide, there's been a big increase in bicycle thefts... The new racks have been designed to be a lot more secure, and residents can leave their bikes in those places with more confidence," he said. The new racks are an improved version of other racks installed by the police since May.
