PCF's revamp making good progress: Lawrence Wong

The PAP Community Foundation's (PCF) big revamp to address the problem of uneven standards across its centres is making good progress, said its executive committee chairman Lawrence Wong.

Speaking at the annual PCF Teachers' Convention on Monday, Mr Wong gave an update on PCF's plan to bring all its 328 kindergartens and child care centres under a centralised system. About 90 centres have now been grouped into six clusters.

"The basic motivation is we want to pull together our resources and find ways to become stronger...the progress has not been too bad," he said.

Prior to this, centres operated on a "decentralised" system because they were run by individual divisions. Each centre decides on its own curriculum, fees and teachers, which has led to an unevenness in quality.
