New head for SCDF's largest division

When Lieutenant-Colonel Daniel Seet did not see enough action during his national service stint at the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) more than 10 years ago, he decided to become a regular.

Sembawang Fire Station, where he was posted during NS, was relatively quiet, and he wanted to experience the adrenaline rush and challenge of saving lives.

The 34-year-old will get all that and more when he takes over the largest division in the SCDF on Monday. The six fire stations within the division cover areas like Jurong Island, Orchard and Bishan.

The upcoming Marina Bay Fire Station will also fall within Lt-Col Seet's command. Speaking to The Straits Times at the SCDF headquarters in Ubi, he said he had just wanted to try his hand at the job when he signed on after NS and had not intended to make it his career.
