Set benchmark for design with old stadium seats

Contest reuses wooden seating from old National Stadium as a tribute

A competition launched last Friday calls on members of the public to submit designs of benches that incorporate wooden seating planks from the former National Stadium.

The winning designs will be built and displayed around the island, alongside benches commissioned from local designers and artists.

The public could be sitting on the same seat where a Lions fan once screamed for joy at a goal, or where a child once watched in wonder as fireworks exploded during a National Day Parade. Those memories of the stadium will no longer be benched, with the contest open until Dec 7.

Titled "bench", the competition is organised by local design practice Farm and jointly presented by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and the Singapore Furniture Industries Council.
