Ex-CNB chief on trial

No gag order on naming woman in sex-for-contracts: District Court

The District Court on Tuesday rejected a request for a gag order on naming the woman in the centre of the sex-for-contracts case involving former Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) chief Ng Boon Gay.

The trial of one of the most high-profile graft scandals involving public servants in nearly two decades here, opened on Tuesday with a spirited argument on whether or not the female IT executive should be protected by a gag order.

Deputy public prosecutor Tan Ken Hwee had applied to the court to prevent any publication of the identity of Ms Cecilia Sue Siew Nang, on grounds that she is clinically depressed.

He said the 36-year-old had not coped well with the attention heaped on her after her name was revealed in charge sheets tendered against Ng in June.
